Dominican Republic, the Caribbean Pearl

As one of the largest Caribbean countries, Dominican republic has much to offer; breathtaking natural beauties, diverse culture and various stimuli for the senses. It contains around 1,000 miles of coastline, featuring gorgeous beaches with clear, turquise waters and white sand, many hotels and places to stay, as well as entertainment and recreation options.  You can also enjoy an array of festivals and celebrations, and, of course, Dominican specialties, such as the famous pirate rum, cigars, coffee and chocolate.

This country’s beaches are known to be some of the most highly ranked in the world, to mention only Barahona, Puerto Plata or Punta Cana. These beaches attract many people who love relaxing by the sea, as well as those with more active appetite, longing for excitements of jet skying, snorkeling, kayaking, catamaran trips, windsurfing or scuba diving. Although there are many beautiful beaches, lovers of privacy and nature might want to visit the famous Bahia de las Aguilas, a protected beach with no human interventions, such as hotels, bars or restaurants.

Being the top destination of many celebrities, Dominican republic offers a myriad of famous hotels, including some top brands, such as Blau Hotels, Iberostar, Sheraton or Vista Sol, but it also provides less expensive accommodation in form of smaller hotels or private apartments for rent.

Those who prefer cultural tourism, should certainly visit the Colonial City. Santo Domingo’s Colonial City is the first European city established in America, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, in 1990. Some of the sites you can visit there are:

Catedral Primada de America, the first American gothic cathedral, built in the early 1500s, the museum Alcazar de Colon, and the legendary street Calle El Conde, vibrant with bohemia, crowded with various interesting cafes and bars. Amongst the famous festivals, we would like to highlight The Santo Domingo Colonial Fest (CFEST), a commemoration of the syncretic cuisine, culture and history of this enchanting place and a famous gastronomic event, Barceló Bávaro Culinary Week, especially recommendable to cuisine lovers .
